Studio - Wow TV

The role that I picked to be in the studio was a camera man, being the camera man I was based in the studio itself recording the show with a camera. My job was pretty straight forward, simply put I had to operate a camera, which meant that I had to constantly record what needed to be recorded, in this case it was the two presenters and the game that we had put on. In the other groups show I also preformed as a model in which I had to walk down a catwalk for their show.

From my time in the studio I think I have learnt a lot, for example I learnt to handle time better, because I found out that we don't have as much time as we think we do, so we need to be ready and serious so that we don't waste time. I also learnt how how to moderately operate a camera, as it was not as easy as I thought it might be, as the camera isn't fixed, so sometimes you're forced to be a bit creative with your shots the get the best possible camera shot. The last thing I learnt was to be more patient, this is because things can go wrong and mistakes can be made and the show has to be re - done till it is right, this can be time consuming, so i had to learn to be more patient.

From what I have experienced from in the studio I would change a few things; first I would change the camera I would use, because the camera I was on didn't require much movement, I would want to be on a more difficult camera to make it more of a challenge and fun. Second I would be more creative with the camera, to try and understand what looks good and what doesn't, I would find this fun as I like to learn from doing.

If I worked in the studio again I would probably like to do a different role, out of all the roles I would want to be the Floor Manager the most, this is because it seems like it is the most fun role and also an important role, I mainly want to do this role because it'd be nice to be incharge of everybody and tell everybody what to do.

Pre - Production

In the beginning, when we had the meeting to assign the roles to each of us in our group, I chose to be a runner for pre - production and a camera man for the studio. In the end I did jobs of a researcher, I helped with writing the biogs for people, as well as doing the contingency plans which is bit by bit what we as a group would do in the studio if a certain thing went wrong, for example if the presenter wasn't in on the day of the production then what would we do instead. The floor plans and the lighting plans were other things that I did in the group, which was basically a drawn plan of what the studio was going to look like with all our things in e.g. where would the cameras be. I also help in writing out what would happen with the game and the ideas, in the final draft of the game we decided that it would be a game similar to one on the Cube, which would be that there were two separate coloured balls in two containers and then the contestant would have a certain amount of time to switch them into different containers. I also had my little jobs as the runner which was to print things out and little jobs like that.

We encountered a few problems in pre - production, the reason for this was that mainly we didn't know what we were supposed to be doing, there wasn't enough communication throughout the group, an example of this was that we would think that we had all done our part and that we had fully finished, to find out that we were far from it when we got the list of things that had to be done back from Nick. Another example was when some of us were in a group and created this game that we would play in the show, then once it was all created and showed to the script writers, on the day that we were rehearsing our scripts our game was out of the script, this was sorted out once we had a meeting about it and the script was then changed to include the game. This was solved towards the end of the pre production when we all had a meeting and sorted out what we all had to do and got on with it and finished all the work. Another problem we encountered was that some people from the group either didn't do the work to the necessary standards or they weren't in when they needed to be, this meant that we almost never had a full group, the way we got around this problem was to take on more work individually for the people that weren't in. We also had problems in the rehearsals part of the show when people didn't bring in the necessary props, for example someone didn't bring in the balls for the show, so we couldn't rehearse for the show.

The thing that I enjoyed about doing this was was that all of the work was done in groups, so it wasn't that we were all silently doing work on our own, we were in little groups of our own doing the work together, we could actually have a bit of fun with it. I also enjoyed the fact that most of the work was pretty easy to tackle, none of it required much thought, just basic knowledge, so it wasn't stressful to do. Overall I didn't find much of the work difficult, as I said before it was pretty easy to handle, however I would've found the script writing difficult as I'm not a very creative person. The thing that I found most difficult was working with some people that didn't always want to get on with the work, which made more work for me.

If I were to do pre production again I would probably do mostly the same, the only difference would be to make sure I was more organised and constantly knew what I was supposed to be doing by asking the Director of the show, and if I was finished then I would go help other finish their work.
